Too many people were struck by the massive earthquake that hit the Tohoku Pacific region in Japan which unleashed a huge tsunami. While we are all devastated to hear of the disaster, we pray for those who have lost lives and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts are also with the people who suffer hardship in the evacuation centers. At the same time, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who is engaged in rescue/support operations in the disaster-stricken areas.

In collaboration with the government of Okinawa and its municipalities, the City of Ginowan is constantly thinking of ways to assist the disaster-struck areas. The citizens of Ginowan will get together and do its best to support.

In this time of hardship, we believe that Okinawa can encourage the people affected by the disaster by holding the 3rd Okinawa International Movie Festival as a successful charity event. In order to do so, we would like to convey to the victims of the disaster that the participants, guests and visitors of this event are thinking of them and trying to come up with ideas to take action to support them.

We pray for an early recovery and wish that this film festival can play a small part in it.

Mayor of Ginowan City
