Six Degrees of Celebration

Director /Bazelev Producer Timur Bekmambetov

People around the world are mourning for the victims of the huge earthquake that hit the Tohoku Pacific region of Japan. Immediately after we learned of the disaster through news on TV, the people of Russia thought about ways to help, to do anything we can to assist the victims of the disaster.

People around the world are extending condolences to those who face immense hardship in the disaster-stricken areas. As a citizen of Russia, I would also like to express my deepest sympathy to all those who suffered this tragedy.

Although Moscow and the disaster-stricken areas are thousands of kilometers apart, in this time of unprecedented tragedy – one of the major tsunamis to hit in human history – I believe that Russia and its neighboring country Japan can come together to overcome this disaster and cooperate from the bottom of our hearts.

Russia is a vast, multi-ethnic country with over one hundred languages and diverse culture, tradition and religion. Despite such diverse ethnic composition, there is one thing we all believe in; and that is – as this film will tell you – that on New Year’s Eve, December 31st, a miracle will happen and our dreams will come true.

The film “Six Degrees of Celebration” is about this miracle on New Year’s Eve.

I pray that our firm belief in “goodness and happiness” will provide “emotional support to all the victims of the disaster in Japan who are trying their best to overcome difficulties.”

In closing, I praise the courage of everyone involved in this film festival including the Executive Committee of the Okinawa International Movie Festival as well as the people of Okinawa for their decisions and wish for all the success.
