OKINAWA INTERNATIONAL MOVIE FESTIVAL Submission Guidelines

Ⅰ.ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
(1) Official Name3rd Okinawa International Movie Festival
(2) Mission Focusing on the idea of “Laugh & Peace” the festival will present a selection of films from around the world to Japanese audiences, and provide opportunities for interaction between filmmakers and audiences to pave the way for new creative possibilities.

Secondally Venue : Sakurazaka Theater and venue around Kokusai Street, Naha City・venue around Chatan Town
(7) Featured Program “Laugh Categories” and “Peace Categories”
The festival will offer premiere screenings of new, feature-length films that “bring us laughter or joy.” The films will be presented in two categories—“Laugh” and “Peace”—and will be eligible for audience awards.


Ⅱ.Submission Guidelines
1.SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The following are the eligibility requirements for submissions to the festival:
The work was completed on or after January 1, 2010.
The running time is 60 minutes or more.
If selected, the entrant is able to provide an English-subtitled exhibition 35mm print or video (DigiBeta, Betacam, or DVCAM – NTSC only) for the festival screening, at the entrant’s own expense (if the film is in a language other than English). The entrant must also provide an English dialogue list, which will be used to create Japanese subtitles.
The work has not been commercially released (in theaters, on television, on DVD , or on the internet) in Japan prior to the final day of the festival.
The work is in line with the overall spirit of the festival.

2.HOW TO SUBMIT
To submit your work to the festival, please send the following to the address as indicated below:
(1)To submit your work ●DVD screener
- NTSC only; region 2 or region 0 (region-free)
- Work must be English-subtitled if in a language other than English
- DVD screeners will not be returned
●Completed entry form
●Press kit (synopsis, cast & crew list, director’s filmography, etc.)
(2)Submission Costs The entrant is responsible for any costs involved in shipping submission materials to the festival office.

(4)Handling of Submissions The festival and its organizers shall bare no responsibility for any submissions that are lost or damaged while in transit to the festival office.
(5)Publicity With permission from the entrant, the festival may use clips or other publicity materials associated with the work for promotional purposes on television, newspapers, magazines, web and other outlets.

3.Submission Deadline
Entries must be received by January 21, 2011 (Japan time)


Ⅲ.SELECTION AND SCREENING OF FILMS
1.Premiere Status
In principle, preference will be given to films that have not been screened in other film festivals or events in Japan or around the world.
2.Selection Process
In accordance with the regulations of the Okinawa International Movie Festival, a selection committee will review submitted works and categorize selected works into the “Laugh Category” or the “Peace Category.”
3.Notification of Selections
The festival will notify the entrants concerning the festival’s selection decisions at the contact information as provided on the entry form.
4.Print Shipment
If accepted for screening at the festival, the entrant must deliver an exhibition print or video of the film to the festival office by a date as specified by the festival. The entrant is responsible for all shipping expenses (including tariffs and insurance) associated with the delivery of the exhibition print or video.
5.Invitation to Participate in the Festival
For each film selected to screen at the festival, one director will be invited to attend the festival. The festival will cover roundtrip airfare, travel expenses while in Japan, and accommodation.
6.Selection Committee
The festival organizers will determine the composition of the selection committee, who shall abide by the rules of the Okinawa International Movie Festival.


Ⅳ.Presentation of Awards
All feature films screened at the festival are eligible for the following awards.

“Laugh Category” Audience Grand Prix(Uminchu Award)
“Peace Category” Audience Grand Prix(Uminchu Award)
Cash Prize: 2,500,000yen

Special Jury Award (Golden Caesar Award)
The jury, as selected by the organizers, will award a special prize to one film from each category.


Ⅴ.Fine Print
1.The Japanese version of these regulations shall take precedence over any translations of the same.
2.With regard to any legal problems arising in respect to the submission or exhibition of works at the festival, these provisions shall be interpreted based on Japanese law, and in the event of any dispute arising, the Tokyo District Court of Japan shall have original jurisdiction in hearing the case.
3.The entrant shall be considered to have understood and agreed to be bound by these provisions from the moment that he or she submits a work and the entry is received by the office of the organizers.
4.The entrant may not refuse screening at the festival after being notified of the selection of their work for screening.
5.In the event that a third party becomes a stakeholder in a work after it has been selected for exhibition (for example, when the work is purchased by a distribution company, etc.), the third party shall not dispute the terms of these regulations.
